Make sure to check back for our detailed guidance for the new laws affecting small business.

There are several small business requirements that are changing over the next few years.  The most immediate item we are reviewing is an expanded requirement that small businesses file IRS Form 1099 for certain expenses.  Current rules require small businesses to file these forms whenever they pay a consultant or purchase a product over $600.  However, the current law does not require the business owner to file the form for purchases from other corporations.  The new law would remove the exception for other corporations.  This means that if you buy a laptop from Dell, you would need to file a Form 1099 for that purchase.  This has never been required before and will be very interesting to see the logistics to implement such a widespread change.
